Conclusion

When researching these women, the contributions they made to the advancement of women, it is hard to pinpoint exactly what made them be overlooked throughout history. For some, it's as simple as someone more famous having the same name as you. That was the case for Angela Grimke, who wrote the first African American performed play. For others, like Tennessee and Victoria, it could be the mistreatment by the press, scandals, or the ways in which they challenged the patriarchy they were faced with. For Francis E. W. Harper, it can be that there are so many poets, her name just gets buried in the stack. An impactful author, her poems about slavery in the south in Sketches of a Southern Life and her short story The Two Offers helped her challenge the patriarchy just like the other women in the exhibit. When analyzing and researching, challenging the patriarchy of men in writing and public speaking was something that stuck out as all being similar. All these women should be remembered more than they are, the concise and careful choosing of women was done intentionally. By learning less names and learning more about those names we are more able to identify with these women and empathize for them. Rather than show many women forgotten, we have shown a few extremely impactful women forgotten for reasons out of their control.
